1520 AD ITALY GIOVANNI MONTE OLIVETTO MAGGIORE

1520 AD ITALY GIOVANNI MONTE OLIVETTO MAGGIORE

A mazzocchio, the faceted torus ring Renaissance artists used to practise perspective construction, and a cabinet of wireframe geometric solids, intarsia by Fra Giovanni da Verona at the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Unlike the panels he made for Siena Cathedral in 1503-1505, this later set stayed in the abbey he worked from, part of a decorative programme he continued there into the 1520s.
