1536 AD ITALY MICHELANGELO THE LAST JUDGMENT
Michelangelo's Last Judgment, the altar wall fresco of the Sistine Chapel, begun in 1536 and unveiled in 1541, a quarter-century after he finished the ceiling. Christ stands at the centre in judgment, the risen ascending to his right and the damned falling toward Charon's boat and hell below; the nudity of the more than 300 figures drew criticism almost immediately and led to painted drapery being added after Michelangelo's death.
