1990 AD SPAIN PLAZA DE EUROPA
The Obelisco Europa, a 33-metre marble-and-concrete obelisk inaugurated on 22 January 1990 at the centre of Zaragoza's Plaza de Europa, a roundabout built in 1987 behind the city's Almozara bridge. Twelve street lamps ring its base along a twelve-pointed star inlaid in the pavement, one lamp for each European Community member state at the time, and each is topped by a stellated octahedron, two interpenetrating tetrahedra, otherwise known outside architecture as the merkaba.
