1537 AD ITALY PAGANINI QURAN
A page from the Paganini Quran, printed in Arabic at Venice by Paganino de' Paganini in 1537-38, the first printed edition of the Quran anywhere. The edition was aimed at export to the Ottoman market rather than at European readers, and it failed: the text is riddled with errors, and tradition holds the entire stock was burned. A single surviving copy turned up in 1987 in the library of the Franciscan friary of San Michele in Isola, Venice.
