1719 AD GERMANY GEORG VON WELLING

1719 AD GERMANY GEORG VON WELLING

A page from Opus Mago-Cabbalisticum et Theosophicum, Georg von Welling's treatise on the origin, nature and use of salt, sulphur and mercury, part of which first appeared under the pseudonym Gregorius Anglus Sallwigt in 1719 (the complete work followed from J. Philipp Helwig at Homburg vor der Hohe in 1735). Welling, a mining administrator by profession, is often credited as the source Goethe drew on for the book of magic in Faust.
