1523 AD ITALY GIOVANNI DA VERONA CUPBOARDS

Trompe-l'oeil cupboard panels by Fra Giovanni da Verona, their painted doors ajar to reveal still lifes of fruit, in this case a bunch of grapes, worked in wood intarsia rather than paint. Part of the same late decorative campaign at Monte Oliveto Maggiore that occupied Giovanni into the 1520s, shortly before his death there in 1525.
