1965 AD ITALY NOSTRA AETATE
Nostra Aetate, the Second Vatican Council's Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions, promulgated by Pope Paul VI on 28 October 1965. Drafted at the urging of Pope John XXIII, whose experience as papal envoy to Turkey and Greece and friendship with the Jewish historian and Holocaust survivor Jules Isaac shaped its direction, it rejected the charge that Jews as a people bore responsibility for Christ's death, recognised the standing of Judaism and Islam, and condemned antisemitism outright; it passed the council 2,221 votes to 88.
