1782 AD USA CONGRESSIONAL GREAT SEAL
The Great Seal of the United States, adopted by the Continental Congress on 20 June 1782 after two earlier committees, one including Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, had their designs tabled over the preceding six years. Congress's secretary Charles Thomson produced the final design in a week: an eagle bearing an olive branch and thirteen arrows with the motto E Pluribus Unum on the obverse, and a thirteen-step pyramid dated 1776 on the reverse.
