1922 AD USA MASONIC NATIONAL MEMORIAL
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial, whose groundbreaking on Shooter's Hill in Alexandria took place on 5 June 1922, the first turn of earth on a monument the skyscraper architect Harvey Wiley Corbett designed and construction continued through 1932. President Calvin Coolidge laid the cornerstone the following year, on 1 November 1923, using a trowel that had belonged to Washington himself; the memorial honours Washington's membership in Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22.
